Tonglen Meditation

a method to overcome the fear of suffering and to dissolve the hardness of our hearts. Primarily it is a method of awakening the compassion that is inherent in all of us, no matter how cruel or cold we may appear.
Tonglen reverses the usual logic of avoiding suffering and seeking pleasure and in the process, we free ourselves from a very old prison of selfishness. We begin to feel love for ourselves and others and we also begin to care for ourselves and others. At first we experience this as things not being as important or as solid as they once seemed to be.
